Edge Resolution

Digital Follies with Ferda Kolatan

The folly pairs the issue of why color resin printing with why photogrammetry as a means to produce a multi-resolution image-object. The process of color 3D printing enables our eyes touch the color of the image; the surface captured by thousands of viewpoints manifested as rasterized data. By box mapping low-resolution content to high-resolution geometry, the image-object relationship negotiates the edges of what the viewer considers to be the folly's interior, exterior, and white canvas as it becomes defined by color itself. The altered hues and displaced surface defamiliarize the origins of the object-image and present a visceral object-space that can be perceived as both ancient and otherworldly. Ancient in its figuration, and otherworldly through its multiple orientations and ungrounded posture.
